Studio → Emotes is where you create the emotes your community types in chat.
Claim your prefix first
Every channel’s emotes share a prefix — a short tag at the front of each code, so billyPog is obviously yours.
- 3 to 8 characters, lowercase letters and numbers.
- You must claim one before you can create any emotes.
- You can change it later, but there’s a cooldown between changes. When you’re inside it, the page tells you when you can change it again.
Choose carefully: changing your prefix changes every emote code your community has learned.
Creating an emote
Each emote needs a code and a display name.
- The code goes after your prefix, must start with a capital letter, and can only contain letters and numbers (up to 30 characters).
- Codes must be unique within your channel.
- The code can’t be changed after creation — only the name and the image. Get it right first time.
Image requirements
Two ways to upload:
| Method | What to supply |
|---|---|
| Auto-resize | One square image, between 112×112 and 4096×4096, up to 1 MB. The three sizes are generated for you. |
| Manual | Three images at exactly 112×112, 56×56 and 28×28, up to 200 KB each. |
PNG, GIF and WebP are accepted, so animated emotes work. Auto-resize is right almost always; use manual when an animation or fine detail needs hand-tuning at the small sizes.
Subscriber emotes
Each emote has a Subscriber Only toggle. Turn it on and only your subscribers can use it — one of the main reasons people subscribe, so make your best emotes subscriber emotes.
Approval
On some deployments new emotes are held for staff review and show a Pending chip until approved. Approved emotes work everywhere in your channel immediately.
Editing and deleting
Each emote card lets you change its name and image or delete it. Deleting an emote breaks it in every past message that used it, so retire rather than delete where you can.
